GATHERING SUPPLIES & HYGIENE
Proper preparation is critical for maintaining sterility and ensuring accurate dosing. Always work in a clean, well-lit environment.
PRECISION & AIR REMOVAL
Drawing the exact dose requires equalizing pressure in the vial and carefully measuring the liquid.
Pull back the syringe plunger to draw air equal to your intended dose. Insert the needle into the vial and inject the air. This prevents a vacuum from forming.
Turn the vial upside down. Ensure the needle tip is in the liquid. Slowly pull the plunger past your dose, then push back to the exact line to expel any air bubbles.
CHOOSING & CLEANING THE AREA
Subcutaneous injections go into the fat layer just below the skin. Rotating sites prevents tissue damage and lipohypertrophy.
Wipe the chosen area with a fresh alcohol pad in a circular motion, moving outward. Let it air dry completely before injecting.
TECHNIQUE & DISPOSAL
The injection should be smooth and steady. Relax the muscle underneath the fat layer.
Gently pinch a fold of skin and fat. Hold the syringe like a dart and insert the needle quickly at a 45° to 90° angle.
Push the plunger down slowly and steadily. Leave the needle in for 5-10 seconds to ensure the liquid doesn't leak out.
Pull the needle straight out. Do not rub the site. Immediately place the syringe in a sharps container.
For compounds requiring deep muscle administration.

GATHERING SUPPLIES & HYGIENE
Intramuscular (IM) injections deliver medication deep into the muscle. Proper preparation is critical for maintaining sterility.
PRECISION & AIR REMOVAL
Using a larger drawing needle makes it easier to pull viscous liquids, while swapping to a finer needle ensures a painless injection.
Attach the drawing needle. Pull back the plunger to draw air equal to your intended dose. Insert into the vial and inject the air to equalize pressure.
Turn the vial upside down. Slowly pull the plunger past your dose, then push back to the exact line to expel air. Remove from vial, carefully recap, and swap to your injection needle.
CHOOSING & CLEANING THE AREA
Intramuscular injections must be placed in large muscle groups to avoid nerves and blood vessels.
Wipe the chosen area with a fresh alcohol pad in a circular motion, moving outward. Let it air dry completely before injecting.
TECHNIQUE & DISPOSAL
The Z-track method is often recommended for IM injections to prevent medication from leaking out into subcutaneous tissue.
Pull the skin taut or use the Z-track method (pull skin to the side). Hold the syringe like a dart and insert the needle quickly at a 90° angle all the way in.
Pull back slightly on the plunger. If you see blood, remove and try a new site. If no blood, push the plunger down slowly and steadily.
Leave the needle in for 5-10 seconds, then pull straight out. Release the skin (if using Z-track). Immediately place syringe in a sharps container.
Understanding gauges, lengths, and volumes for optimal administration.
Higher gauge numbers mean a thinner needle. Thinner needles cause less pain but are harder to push viscous liquids through.
Ultra-thin, ideal for painless subcutaneous water-based injections.
Medium thickness, required for intramuscular depth and oil-based compounds.
Thick needles used only for drawing liquid from vials. Never inject with these.
Length determines how deep the medication is delivered. Incorrect length can result in medication entering the wrong tissue layer.
Standard for subcutaneous. Short enough to avoid muscle in most body types.
Also used for SubQ, particularly if injecting at a 45-degree angle.
Required to penetrate through the fat layer and deep into the muscle tissue.
Choose a syringe size that closely matches your dose for maximum precision. 1ml = 1cc = 100 units.
Best for very small micro-doses. Offers the highest precision for reading tick marks.
Great middle ground for standard peptide doses under 50 units.
Standard insulin syringe. Good for larger doses or reconstituting with 1ml of water.
Used with detachable needles for drawing large volumes or IM injections.
